I cant watch it. I dont understand how anyone could harm a child. There is a place reserved for people like the shooter. May God grant the families suffering comfort and peace.

These tragic events are becoming to frequent. Unfortunately personal accountability is going by the wayside while we blame other things such as guns, video games. These actions were done by an individual on his own accord.

My heart goes out the the victims family in their time of need.

I just can't understand why would they allow the selling of machine guns?? It's not for hunt nor for personal protection. In a civilian society they're no difference than missiles.

It is really sad news, I can't believe that huge number of children death

The bushmaster .223 isn't fully automatic. Just a rifle with a large clip with shooting as fast as you can pull the trigger.

But the guns are not the issue here, it was the psycho that had them in his possession!

It wasn't a "machine gun" it was an assault rifle. Which was banned according to CT state law. http://www.cga.ct.gov/current/pub/Ch...Sec53-202a.htm Also the rifle was not used in the shooting but was found in the trunk of the car the shooter drove to the school.

Laws are made and laws are broken. People should ultimately be held responsible for the actions they take.

Newbie , You have been in my home ... I have met you and basically you are an over educated naive nice guy ... But yes you are a Foreigner from Saudi Arabia ... And from the past experince with the "Gathering" obligations one that can't be depended on ... Get educated in the real world !!...

There were no Machine guns ! ... They have been outlawed in this country for the general Public since the Act in 1934 ... This Deranged Kid (20/24 years old ?) had a sig and Glock Pistol ... The semi automatic ...If you know what that means .. rifle never left The Car trunk ... Both pistols were semi automatic ... which means that the trigger has to be pulled each time for discharge ... He was a nut !! Killed his mom at home (which where he lived at the age of 20 to 24 ...age not sure ) ... and then went to the school ...and the new School high $$ sercurity system did not work ... So he got in because his mom taught there and they new him ... Not as a nut he was but as an adult son living at home with his mom and every one at the school knew him .. .. and thought it was okay and let him in ...

Conn. has some strange laws ... you can't transport a gun and the ammunition in the same vehicle ... Boy did he break the law !!! (So Much for Gun Laws) ... did it stop anything !!! No!! People who are Nuts, Terrorist (Which anybody from the MiddleEast) should be use to , Oh I am sorry Newbie you are not from Israel ... Should be use to ... ...

So now We have all the Libs coming down on the 2nd. Ammendment to do away with Guns ... . Okay lets look here at home .. Rutherford County ... Newbie where you live ... every school in the county as well as Wilson where I live has a Armed County deputy stationed in the school while it is in cession ... Guns is not the problem ... If the Conn , Col, and many other states in this country would have let the teachers or a law officer "with a gun" be present ... This would have been prevented ... Since the states with carry permits have been legal ... like theaters and general public where Gun carry is legal has any of this happenend !!! NO !! ...

These Libs who post there signs that Weapons are not allowed in their establishments are just inviting the NUT!! to enter ... because there is no one there to take them out ... !!

I guess I have broken one of my Cardinal Rules of Political correctness and politics on my site ... But I am like Charlie Daniels, Who is my Neighbor five miles down the road .. ... Enough is enough !!!

I still believe in Apple Pie and Chevrolets ... I have a bad taste in my mouth about Obama's bail out for General motors (even though I love my Chevy truck made in Mexico in 1997) ..$738 Million for the Union retiress off the top of our tax payers money ... And the $200,000 I put into my Social Sercurity is now called an entitlement ??? No I worked for it folks !!!

Lastly... I love my Country ... I am a Viet Nam Veteran and served during the Tet Offensive of 1968 ... I have seen and did things that I hope no one ever has to experience ... I love My Country!! ..

I fly an Illuminated Flag 24/7 ... Not just an ordinary American Flag ... I go around and acquire Vet flags ... The one's that supposed to have been flown over the White House(Thank God I fly Viet Nam Vet vintage flags, I do fly those that are 4 years old or newer for the Vets of our present crises in the Mid East but not because it was flown over the White House, that would be a disgrace) I acquire these from the famlies of the desists Vet.
I LOVE MY COUNTRY!!"

With the State of our World and Our Country and the Political Correctness in a volley of uncertainess I will make a stand ..

So from this point on ... If you are Socialist, anti American, or Misinformed ... Be sure you have facts ... I am tired of our Federal Big Brother trying to tell me what Doctors I can see, What meds or Surgerys that I may be able to have because of my age ... Also How Far I can fish near a Dam !!

I don't Want entitlements, I just want what I have worked and Fought (Literally) for In my Life time ... Freedom !! <'TK>< Patriot ...

TK, I want to thank you for your commitment and dedication to America. To many have forgot what it took to be the Best country to live and thrive in.
I thank you for your service to Freedom and Liberty.
I want to say your post is right on point. We are headed in a direction that leaves no alternative for those of us that crave Freedom from Government. I think we would all be better off if the federal government just went away. I have a friend that lives in PA. She told me that PA is already letting the sick people that are bed ridden and I am sure terminal, to starve to death in their beds. I replied that when patients are brain dead and taken off life support it can take days or some cases weeks to pass away. She said NO!!!! these patients are bed ridden and begging for food and water!!!!! I can't prove this one way or another. It does sound eerily like obamacare. As for gun control for the mentally challenged..... the Obama administration want to put veterans with PTSD on the " National Crime Register " this will Red flag any gun purchases when the background check happens. So I guess it is a felony to have PTSD..... I could go on and on but I won't. I end my rants here.

As a mid 30's something another with a LEGAL carry permit for many years. You can still get a permit "They call it a stamp" to own a fully automatic weapon. It is hard to do and cost alot. There is no real reason to have one except ( They are fun to shoot ) if your a gun guy.

I think all Schools,Church's and places where people gather in mass's should at a ( Minimum ) should atleast have a secure place where weapons are stored.

These Libs who post there signs that Weapons are not allowed in their establishments are just inviting the NUT!! to enter ... because there is no one there to take them out ... !!

I am the dad of a 3 Y/O son and will not shop at Toy's R Us because they will not allow people with legal permits in their store. They have signs on the door. But there is no sign that says no shop lifters.

What happen in CT is truly sad. Makes me want to home school more and more every day. I will do all I can to make my son as normal as can be. He will be educated on Guns,Fishing,Hunting,Treating woman properly and saying Yes Sir and Yes Mam.

Never underestimate the power of hitting your knees and talking to the guy upstairs.

Cool

It was a pleasure to meet a gentleman like you.

I think that I was wrong by assuming that the rifle, which I used to see a similar on at WalMart, is a machine gun. Thanks for the clarification about the law and the type of weapon.
I am not familiar with the argument about weapons legislation here in the U.S. and I was just express my fleeing about the incident. Sorry if I offend you by my comment.

And Merry Christmas.

This is a common confusion among folks who don't shoot and don't own guns. A few folks jumped on you here for the misunderstanding, but don't feel bad. I see non-gun owners confuse "automatics" and "semi-automatics" and "machine guns" all the time.

Here's something I wrote recently on my Facebook page earlier today in the hope that it might help clarify the issues a little bit for folks who don't shoot. It oversimplifies a few minor points in the interest of brevity, but I think it's a good starting point to make sure people aren't getting confused because they're talking about the wrong things.

No matter where you stand on the gun issue, it's best to understand the facts first:

Quote:
Okay: gun lesson for the folks I know who don't shoot, but who are concerned about the recent mass shooting.

This shooting didn't involve "automatic weapons" or "assault rifles." It did involve a semi-automatic handgun, probably with a high-capacity magazine, though I haven't heard that confirmed anywhere.

An "automatic weapon" is what most laypeople would call a "machine gun." You hold down the trigger, and it keeps firing until you're out of bullets. Automatic weapons have been illegal since the 1930s. You almost NEVER see crimes committed with automatic weapons because they are very difficult for the average person to get. (This might say something about the argument that criminals would still easily get other guns if they were illegal, but I'll leave the editorializing to others).

A "semi-automatic weapon" is NOT an automatic. It is also NOT even remotely anything like a machine gun. A semi-auto just means that the cartridge is ejected after you pull the trigger without having to cock or reload the gun, and a new round is chambered. Lots of sporting arms are semi-auto. The shotgun I use to shoot skeet and pheasant hunt is semi-auto. The sidearm your local police officer uses is probably semi-auto. Semi-automatic guns are very commonplace and hunters use them all the time.

An "assault weapon" is a term that was in a law from the 1990s that was subsequently repealed. It's not a machine gun, nor is it an automatic weapon. People, even gun owners, get really confused about this. Under the statute, there were a "laundry list" of features that a "military-style" rifle might have: semi-auto, flash suppressor, high-capacity magazine, folding stock, etc. A rifle was considered an "assault rifle" if it had three or more features off the list. The statute was a little arbitrary but was aimed at distinguishing regular sporting arms from weapons with enough military-style features to make them more efficient for combat and less desirable for hunting.

You'll probably hear someone on the news talk about "automatic weapons" and their role in gun crimes. That person is confusing the issue because of inadequate knowledge about the topic.

You may hear someone talk about banning "assault weapons." This is probably an easy target since it has been done before, and politicians know what it would look like and how it would work. But remember that assault weapons are very rarely involved in mass shooting incidents. Most of them involve handguns.

The last thing you may hear in the discussion is a "high capacity magazine." Basically, the magazine is the part on a gun that holds the bullets. A high capacity magazine might hold 20 or 30 bullets or more. This basically dictates how many times the shooter can fire his gun without stopping to reload. An example might help to illustrate: my shotgun I mentioned above is semi-automatic, but the magazine only holds five shells. After I shoot five times, I have to stop to reload. If I am duck hunting, the law requires me to put a plug in my gun that limits me further to three shots. Some say high capacity magazines are a problem in mass shooting incidents, because a shooter can fire 20 to 30 times or more without stopping to reload or giving someone an opportunity to take the shooter down. High-capacity magazines have no place in hunting, though some target shooters like the convenience of being able to shoot a long time without reloading.

Hopefully this will help clarify some of the terms that are going to be thrown around a lot in the coming days. Feel free to share this if you think it's helpful. If we're going to have a conversation about the role guns ought to play in our society, it will help for everyone to be on the same page about what the terminology means.
Hope this is helpful to some people out there.
