Talking Lake of The Woods, Canada Fishing Trip

My brother, Father, and I just got back from a 2 day fishing trip in Canada where the highs were in the mid 70s and lows in the 60s. What they call humid there, we call early spring here, as the weather could not have been better during our stay. We had a small rain shower on our last day but it did not hurt the bite as the pictures will show. The lodge we stayed at is called Lake of The Woods Lodge(www.lakeofthewoodslodge.com). The food was excellent, as was the fishing. The first day of fishing we went out for walleye and caught about 60-70 walleye between the 4 of us on leeches/jigheads. We had a great shore lunch where I made a few casts with a spinnerbait and caught a nice smallmouth, my dad also caught a smallmouth from the shore. Then, on my first cast with a giant 9inch Suick muskie lure, I had a 35 inch northern crush it. That was fun to experience just from the bank. On our second day out, we decided to hike in to a 1000 acre private lake, where we caught 180-200 Bass, mostly smallmouth with some largemouth mixed in, and a few northern pike. The biggest smallmouth bass measured 22inchs and was alittle over 5 lbs.The biggest largemouth was 20inch and 4.5lbs. Most of the bass ranged 2.5-4lbs. About half of our bass came on topwater!!!! The pike were taken off terminator sinnerbaits, and the rest were taken off of soft plastics texas rigged. We had several doubles with some triples mixed in. The biggest fish of the day was a 40inch Northern Pike that originally tried to eat a 3.5lb Bass that I had just reeled up. I few minutes later it bit a small jig that I was fishing on 8lb line and medlight tackle. You can see her in the picture.
Overall it was an excellent trip that we will definatly take again next year.

Brother with smallmouth.

Me with a 40inch pike caught with 8lb line, medium light rod. The guy holding the smallmouth was our guide. This was one of several doubles of the day.

Dad with 5lb+ smallmouth.

Me and a Smallmouth that hit topwater so hard that it twisted my hat around. Notice my Dad in the background with a fish on.

Hope yall enjoyed the pics. I have some videos up on youtube. We get alittle excited when the big pike gets hooked.

Default Lake of the Woods, MN

Wow, what a great report. Thanks for sharing it.

I have been thinking about taking a trip to Lake of the Woods myself. Some friends at church went last Labor Day weekend and came back with stories of abundant 3 and 4 lb. SM bass, 40 inch pike, and 150+ fish a day between the dad and 4 sons. Now I know that that his reports weren't just "fish tales." Where did you fly into? Was 2 days fishing long enough or should I shoot for a 3 or 4 day trip?

We flew into International falls. From there is was a 2 hour van ride to the lake. We were picked up by boat at a lakeside bait shop and taken to the island were our lodge was. We wanted to stay all week lol, but my brother could only take off 2 days from work. Next time we will do minimum 4 days fishing.
