Default Caney Fork 5/13

Had a pretty good morning wading the Caney Fork @ Betty's Island.. Lost count on how many I caught, somewhere in the neighborhood of 12-15 rainbow.. All were stock sized 10-12".. Was slow in the beginning throwing a gold spoon so switched to a silver Panther Martin 1/8 oz. Then it was on...Almost every cast hooked a fish..All fish were cpred and had a great time. I've fallen in love with trout fishing since discovering the Caney Fork.

Nice fish. I love that river too. Just so you know, while most of the 10 to 12 inch fish are fresh stockers, many of them are stocked in there as fingerlings and take some time to grow to that size. You can usually tell by the fins being worn down and dull color if it's recently stocked. Some rainbows will have a much more vivid pink area on the side and gills and those have been living wild for a while. Those are the good tasting ones too if you want to grill some.

The debate goes on and on on whether there is a small amount of natural reproduction in there or not. I like to think there is.

Watch out for the Caney. She can break your heart but in a good way... like breaking off a huge brown or bow and crying on the side of river. I've been there and will be again. Congrats.
