Default Old hickory lake winter fishing

2-5-12
Went out to Old Hickory Lake yesterday with my wife to catch some bass. It was a tuff one! It was the day after a cold front in the winter. Started out slow, but the bite got better as the day went on. I ended up with 11 bass, 4 keepers! Biggest one was 4 pounds caught on a jig. Second biggest was 3 and half and caught on a tennessee rig. Total weight of the 4 keepers was little over 12 pounds. Not a bad day for post frontal conditional. The rest came on a jig. The key to today was fishing slow and around cover. All bass were between 8 and 15 ft. Also caught a 4 pound walleye, my first on old hickory! Good Luck to all, Robert Hunter

Very nice day. I went out for a few hours Sunday afternoon and threw mostly a jig in Cedar. I had 5-6 bites, but couldnt connect. It was like they were lightly picking it up and spitting it out. Finally got a couple on a shad rap.

Did you fish the main lake or in a creek?

I have tried the TN rig, but dont have confidence in it yet on OH. Probably need to stick with and give it a chance.

Thanks guys! Yeah it was a light jig bite. I have to go with finesse jig and trailer to catch the ones i did. I still only connected with half of them. I fished both creeks and main lake. The t rig in my opinion dosnt work as well as the a rig, but it does catch fish. Im doing things a little different on mine and its starting to catch some. Its tough on oh bc the water is never really "clear" and swimbaits traditional work better in clear water!

I have been making and using my own Tenn rigs and have caught several fish with them on Old Hickory and Priest, if you look at my thread posted Priest this morning you will see a couple of sows I caught with this rig. You have to fish it deep this time of year!
