Default random thought on crankbaits...

Back when i was growing up, as kids we had a bad habit of smacking the crankbait on the water to knock of grass and twigs.....quite frequently actually, the lip would bust off the body so all you were left with tied on your line was a clear plastic lip! lol.
Is that stil, an issue with todays baits? I dont fish grass anywhere so i dont need to do that, but i was sorting my cranks the other day and got a good laugh thinking back on how much money i wizzed away by being lazy. Lol.
The rapalas were the worst where they tried to glue the plastic lip into the balsa body! lol

Sometimes but now a days they hold better and are integrated into the bait more.

When I came back home to Tn in mid 90's we had a lot of grass on Old Hickory but the Corp killed it all off soon and fishing changed , at least near bank and shallow areas!

Yeah ive been told old hickory used to be very good bass fishing till they killed off all the weeds.
Weeds CANbe managed if people want to spend the money to do it right. Even on a large scale.

I fished a lake in Lima, Ohio in the early 90's and the only lure that was catching walleye was a chrome with red bill Rapula Fat Rap off of the rip rap. I must have caught 20 fish in one spot until the bill broke off...not another fish was caught after that...sigh.

I loath rapala baits. The mere sight of them in a store angers me! lmao.
I have a few old shad raps that i troll with, but thats about it.

I do this often. Strike King baits hold well. The rapala dt-6, one of my favorite cranks, I can no longer slap on the surface, I've broke several just like you mentioned. The bill breaks off the balsa.
