Talking OH Fishing Report (Bass and Stripe Pics)

I was prefishing for a local tournament held on the 20th and here are the recent conditions. I launched at 6:30 in 42 degree water and it snowed off and on all day. The lake is up substantially. Most ramp docks are unaccessable. I put in at Bull Creek/Flippers. The water is slightly muddy but there is debris floating that could sink the Titanic. Bass bite was slow but suprisingly strong. Finished with a total of 6 keepers and 12 short. I ended the day at the GSP. Who can go to the GSP without at least trying to hook a striper?? Not me. Well I found a monster! Keep in mind I fought this fish for 25 minutes, was spooled 3 times and chased it down finally with the trolling motor. I was using a 6'6" medium action rod and 10# test. My scale goes to 40 and it maxed it out. I have no idea what she weighed but im guessing 50ish. This was my first nice sized Striper but I think I am hooked as long as they all fight like this!!!!! What do ya think? Beginners luck I'm sure but rest easy. She is still swimming. I had her out long enough to take a quick pic and when released, she swam off without a problem. I hope somebody else catches her one day, I have my evidence! Good Luck!!! BTW the water temp in GSP was 54.8.

I had no live bait so I opted for a 5" basstrix hollowbody swimbait in white.

No problem on posting the pics guys. I just hope somebody else gets to enjoy catching her. Thanks for the compliments danny. It took all I had not to try to force it but man Im glad I didnt. I never saw her until she was able to be landed. I think if I knew what I had, I probably would have messed something up because of nerves. Fishaholic, congrats on the new boat!!

Great report and nice fish ... And congrats on the the striper on artificial ... Also appreciate your six post since you have been posting ...

And I might say a true fisherman like all of us and proud of what we catch ... And glad this school fish was released to grow up .... Notice the long body length but basically a slender girth eccept for the Spring time stomach because it is full of eggs, also the small head and gill plates ... ... For reference in the future ... Check my home page .... the fish on the left weighed 56 pounds the fish on the right weighed 45 pounds ... These are the rogues that you are after for 40 Plus pound stripers ... <'TK><

Many thanks TK. As for my multiple replies, It should be common rule. If someone asks you a question or gives you a compliment, you should post a response. Even if you don't want to give away your secret honey hole or lure. Just say you are unable to give those details. That way people don't get turned off by your posts or keep checking back to find nothing. If you can take the time to post your story or picture, you should be able to take the time to respond in my opinion, even if it takes a few days.
Anyway, Im off to OHL again saturday and will report any findings. Im going to TRY to stay away from GSP but if I dont have luck elsewhere..... GSP here I come. Im wanting to try a different technique there and hopefully it proves useful although I NEED to stay away from there and find a few more spots. First tournament is the 20th and I can't weigh in Striper.... Other than that, tight lines and screaming drags to all!!!

I fish a lot of tournaments on Old Hickory. The main trail is Riverside Marine. It is your average point based trail but they only have 1 or 2 a month. I like that so I can prefish for them. I used to fish the SMBCBT (Flippers) tourney but having an event every Sunday didnt let me fish other lakes or other tournaments because every Saturday I had available, I was prefishing. Plus the Riverside trail is $50 a boat compared to $80 for Flippers but both are organized, well ran and MOST anglers are courteous and easy to talk to. Every tournament fished out of Bull Creek Boat Ramp is posted on flippers web site under upcoming events (www.flippers1.com). Im not affiliated with any of them nor Flippers bait shop but wanted to let anyone interested have the info. They are alot of fun and every bass angler should experience the thrill of a tournament at least once. Just be patient and if you just fish one or two, I advise you to fish during months you feel confident. The tourney Feb 20th will have alot of anglers cold, physically and/or mentally defeated and unless you found the fish: empty-handed. I also fish alot of one day tourneys on "The Hick" as well which are also noted on the site mentioned above. Other than "The Hick", I fish BFL tourneys on Guntersville, KY Lake and Barkley. Hope that answers your question TNRacer. If not, shoot me a thread back.
