When they are in the jumps like this, they are chasing newly hatched fry.
I found them like this last year and again two weeks ago. I scaled down to a 1 1/2 inch white twister tail and even had to add another long shanked hook to the hook on the twistertail to catch the many short strikers.
They are usually small whites and hybrids although last week we had a herd of small largemouth (12-14 inchers) blowing up around us as we were crappie fishing. We threw our bobbers and minnows at them and caught a couple.
