Default Caney Fork 6/20 and 6/21

Strapped the yak on the Jeep and headed to the Caney on Thursday after work. When I arrived it started storming BAD! Wind, Pouring, thunder and even Hail for a while. I sat in the parking lot for just under an hour waiting for the storm to pass. Finally I got on the water about 6 ish. I wanted to run up to the waterfall and get in the gills that Alpha did. Well they were not there, at least for me they weren't, caught 2 little guys. But did manage a few dandy whites in the waterfall. I switched it up to tossing a spoon and started getting a few nice browns. I caught 4 from 13-16". Then my buddy met me about 7:30 and we fished a bit and nothing to exciting. Hit put a big crank on and started casting and missed one the first cast. Then for the next half hour he caught 3 browns from 16-22" and I lost 2 at the boat that were over 20",

I did manage a brook just under 16" on a crank which is AWESOME!

As soon as it got dark, there were no more bites.

I repeated the trip on Friday, before sundown, I got on a good bite with a 1/8 oz double cross jig with a pearl white crappie mag. I caught 3 browns around 15"-16" each, 2 more HUGE brooks! (one i had on the tape to take a pic, it measured 16 1/2" and it flopped off before i got a pic.) And I also got a rainbow about 15". The bites weren't fast and furious, but all good sized fish, especially on the 2 lb test.

I then decided to troll, i put out a crank on one rod and just tossed out the crappie mag on the other. Man I should have done that all afternoon! I wouldn't get 20 yards and that 2 lb test would be screaming off the reel! In a half hour of trolling, i caught a 15" brown, 19" bow, 12" crappie, and 6 white bass. Never got a hit on the crank. At sundown, i tossed the crank for the browns again and had 3 HARD hits, but never got any hooks in them.

It was a great few evenings on the Caney, I am used to catching numerious 8-12 inchers, these trips were different, no small ones, but not as many. All quality fish! I was most excited about the 3 brooks that were 15 1/2"-16 1/2"!

I also posted a few pics of the yak after Chad "Yak Attacked" it over at Hook 1. My graph is still getting rigged, so that will be added. I have mounts all over it, so they will be ready if I am alone, or tandem. Also got a anchor trolly system. Getting 2 anchors, a drag chain and a stake pole. READY TO GO!!
