I'm in the market for a simple depth/fish finder. I am clueless to them. My current set up is , 14/36 sears flat bottom Jon boat. Trolling motor in the rear and one up front. Small deck up front. No pedestal seats just yet. But coming.

I really have no idea how they work. Do they only view what's under the boat or what? I typically don't venture far from the ramp since I only have a trolling motor. I guess I just need someone to tell me what I need. I hate to spend a fortune.
