Trout magnet users
I'm assuming that most of the bluegills being caught are with the trout magnet. I've tried the crappie magnet without much success at all. Well... No success. I feel like it's something I'm doing wrong...
I out the bait on the jig head, tying up and using a bobber... I'll catch on the same setup with minnow without a problem. Just a fish choice or should I be fishing it another way... Also.. What are you guys catching the bluegill on? Same setup just a trout magnet? Thanks for any advice! |
I usually use 6 pound line for crappie magnets. I use 2 pound for trout magnets. I usually use a straight retrive at the depth the fish want it. For some reason the fish really like the gliding action they provide. Bluegill with the trout magnet l I will use the twitch method like the one showed in the video. http://troutmagnet.com/video-detail.php?id=5

Here is a link to a good video about twitching. Keep in mind the videos talking about trout....but the method is the same. You let the lure fall to the depth you think the Gills are at and start twitching. If you saw my post today about Normandy I used the twitch method to catch the trout....and also the rock bass. You may want to put a size "B" split shot 18 inches above the TM if it is windy. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

There will be times you will want to use it under a float.

Make sure you keep the T M body all the way on the jig head. Some times when the fish hit the lure they will pull the "britches" down and you will need to put them back in place.

I saw in the video they said close to the bottom with a float. So how close to the bottom? Say I'm fishing a river that averages 4.5', and flat bottom, no trees, no stumps, no brush, just a concrete bottom that is featureless. I have about 3.5' of 3# flouro leader tied on, hopefully that will be enough, but I usually use braid and don't have any issues so we'll see if I do better with 3# flouro
