OHL Crappie 3/9/14
1 Attachment(s)
Got to the lake around 9 am. Caught 7 the first six hours. It turned on at 3 pm. Caught 21 between 3-6:30.
All fish caught on tuffies (bought at Walker's) using a double drop rig in 25-35 fow. |
Were you on the upper or lower end of OH? I got out early Saturday and did like you caught about a fish an hour, I was spider rigging in 16 feet of water over brush at the back of Batrons Creek.
I went up to KY lake Thursday and Friday, their water temps are mid to upper 40's and we were catching fish in 12 fow, limited both days. It amazes me how the same fish in different lakes have patterns so different. Thanks for the report, Ray |

That's a cool shot of the Sonar. Those fish are hugging the bottom pretty tight. The ones I caught Sunday you had to just about hit them on the head with the minnow.

Great fish!

I had the same issue as Thejuice had. If you didn't drop it in front of them, they weren't going to hit it. I think that cold front may have had something to do with that.
|
So you fish weights under your minnows. I always have split shots then 18" or so then the minnow. I think the front did screw with the fish. Here is one of my favorite sonar shots. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/10/3aga5a6y.jpg

I will have to try that. I like the idea of the sinker under the bait but out of habit and just fish the way I do. If I am drifting jigs I will tie two on a line but I have never done it with live bait.
|
I put a snap swivel on the bottom so I can change the weights, I like to use 1/2 oz, lighter for shallow and heavier for deeper. Were there any other guys spider rigging out there, I know on KY lake they are all over the place but around here they are far and few between. I have not been able to get my HB to show a bite like that, I see the lines and fish but what you are showing is really cool.

I'm going to start trying a Carolina rig with a floating jig head for bottom relating fish. I'm new to crappie fishing so I have just been experimenting. |
