So I was gifted by my brother a great Christmas present of a rain suit. A
Pro Qualifier parka and bibb overalls from Bass Pro shops and needed to test them.

I headed down to the greenway in Hermitage and caught
a couple Brim and one small drum trying a float and fly and worms
I was hoping for a trout or two but this is the first time to fish this area from the bank.

After no fish for an hour I went below the dam and was skunked as were all I seen except for one fellow whom I seen catch 2 on a panther martin. (I asked as I was leaving) But was warm and snug as a bug.

Haha paid twenty dollars for two months of trout fishing so I need to utilize
it, online purchase (TWRA) charged me to print my own license :confused:.

Any of ya'll ever take a full size bass boat up the Caney this time of year and how far can a man go if he is careful?

That part of the Stones can make a grown man cry...at least you were dry!

No gens= no bass boat

1 gen= maybe okay in the bass boat but watch for several shallow areas until you learn them

2 gens= yes pretty much anywhere

3 gens= yes anywhere

Just be aware of the strainers along the side of the river and bridge abutments.

That BP Pro Qualifier rain suit is some of the best money I've ever spent. Now if I could just find something that can keep my hands from freezing, I'll be golden.

With no gen I should be able to traverse a short distance so with the winter time water temps at the mouth area what do reckon the chances of catching trout would be.

Navionics map shows 9-10 ft for 2 miles then goes blank I would enter the area carefully.
I sure do miss my old 16 bass tracker that thang could be put in at the campground during semi low water.

Are you talking up from the Cumby or starting at the Dam? You can come up from the Cumby a little ways but there is a pretty skinny shoal down there to navigate through. On the top end you can put in at the Dam then go up to the pond area trolling motor only but watch out for the shallow spots around there. It is deep enough to fish it but loading a heavy glass boat on low water is not much fun.

When there isn't generation, I don't think you can go from the ball fields ramp in Carthage to the Cumberland in a big boat. There is at least one real shallow shoal to navigate. If you can get through it then that ramp area is about as far up to go. You can also put in and fish a small section of deep water at the Gordonsville ramp in a bass boat about 100 yards long or so on low water.

If you time it right you can run up as far as you want when generation hits the lower end then ride it back out.

I may try that soon maybe just a couple of miles then float down even if I catch no fish it will be a better day than work haha.

Be sure you know the generation schedule though, as well as how long it takes for the water to get from the dam to where you are at. I've seen people get a big boat stuck on a gravel bar and have to wait all night for the next generation pulse to float them out.

The boat is an old 89 18' BMC with a 200 Blackmax so I'm sure it's heavy in the rear.
