Big big heads at Old Hickory!

Went to Old Hickory tailwaters Sat. Morning. Scored a good mess of flatheads and several blues. Was amazed at the size of big head carp jumping in the boils! If you fish in there, better wear a helmet. We seen 25 lb plus fish jumping 4 to 5 ft. out of the water....

Is that those Asian carp? I was down below Cheatham Sat. and fish were jumping like that in one area (not as big as the ones you saw, though), but I think (hope) they were skipjack, and not the asian carp.

Yep, they're here. We have both Big Head and Silvers. Both look the same, except Big Heads are darker and mottled, while Silvers are well...silver! The Silvers are the ones known for jumping. That's a Silver on my avatar and it came out of the Cumberland River, near Ashland City where I've seen hundreds of them. They're bad news unfortunately for our native fishery.

Awesome about the cats! What was your technique?

These may have been silvers. They were mostly grey back, silver sides and white belly. First I have seen so not sure. But they were big. Man will want to pay attention when fishing there as one of these could knock you out of the boat if standing and blindsided!

We fished live medium shiners near the dam. Flatheads love some live bait!
