Center Hill Dam Spillways

Just curious when was the last time any of y'all have seen the spillway doors open on Center Hill Dam? In the year and a half I have been here, I have not.

2009, I think. It was in early October. The spillway flows coupled with one generator set up conditions for an epic topwater striper bite. Lasted for almost 3 hrs, fish averaged 20 lbs, multiple hits on almost every cast, losing a fish during the fight would result in another one grabbing your lure as you reeled it back in, and the only people there were my bro in law and me...one of the best fishing days I've ever had.

I imagine they had it open in May 2010 but not for sure.

Water was 8ft over Cheatham Dam that month. :D

I dont believe they had them open during 2010 due to the lake being so low plus they didnt have that large amount of rain over toward that way as we had here. This is a picture a friend of mine took in 1973 or 1974. Hope y'all enjoy it.

I believe back in 01 they ran it hard too. If I remember right Ronnie down at CT took some photos of Happy and the water went straight across from the top of the ramp to the other bank. They had everything wide open and loose then.

Awesome pic Roy, thanks for sharing.

My son and I were up there during the flood in 2010 trying to fish the lake. The water was up in the trees but we both looked at the dam and discussed how they couldn't let any water out as it was still below the spill gates....to the best of my memory.

Cool picture. Look at how little of the divider wall is still above water! The water level was quite high that day!

Awesome pic! I hope to see those doors open someday!

The trash cans will be full of busted rods and the parking lot at the dam full of people too scared to trout fish, lol.

Chris

I bet the rockfish would be there though! :D

They'd be the reason for the broken tackle and fear.

Haha, you are right! Many many people with snapped trout rigs!

Man! Look at how high the lake is in that second pic!
