Striper Guide
 

Hey guys, I was introduced to striper last year through family friend. While I have been learning, I need some help. At the same time, I want to take my wife and put here on a good sized striper to get her more interested. Maybe we could spend some more time together without chasing children. Does anyone have a good guide to recommend? I know of Ralph Dallas and Fred McClintock but think both are retired.

Thanks for the advice. I think I have my sights set on the river striper.

Are you wanting to catch striper in the river or a trophy striper in the river. Those are two completely different things. Trophy being above the 40lb mark.

I am sure there are several that can do the first part but if its the second that you want go with someone who is known for trophy's.

I spoke with the gentleman who can put me on what I need about 15 mins ago. He suggested we hold off a little until we get some rain.

In the mean time, if any of you with experience feel like sharing some knowledge and need a partner I am more that willing to tag along. :D I live in Mount Juliet so I close to the Cumberland......

If you find any Guides worth their Salt these days (That haven't retired, I know Fred and Ralph Hollis Dallas very well )they would have you on the Upper Cumberland River !!! working on 40 to 60, pound Plus Trophy's ... schooling Stripers can be found anywhere Tim's ..P.Priest .... etc ... Regardless of the water level and temps ... You just have to know how to do it ... a lot of Guides These days are only Guides by the Label they put on themselves (Make sure they are U.S.C.G. Captain) .. If not you are all ready Illegal on a Navigatable water way ... .... Results is what matters ... No not every trip will produce ... That is why it is called fishing ... Right now Mike Anderson (See Home Page preferred Guides is the best there is in this catagory) Do your research ... Scan the web and Google ... Look for results ... I am not saying that there are not good young guides out there ... Up and Coming .. WOW! Thanks for that glowing endorsement TK but there are plenty of other very competent Striper guides out there. I'm clobbered at work right now starting up a new crew at the New Nissan Battery plant and I'm not taking many bookings this year plus I only offering fly fishing trips for Striper. I expect my workload will level out soon and I'll get more excited about working weekends but this summer I'm pretty much just fishing for stress relief. TK, I know you know where I'm coming from about work.;)

It's amazing how a guide can be so well known and respected (on a national level) as Ralph Dallas and yet he NEVER personally shows up on the internet revealing his locations or tactics or beating his chest. My hats off to him, for that is what truly makes a GREAT angler and guide. He had a code of ethics that is lost on today's ME generation.

The only thing I didn't like about Ralph is he wouldn't take my business on a couple of different occasions over the years. He said he wouldn't guide to a local at the time. I ended up going with Fred McClintock and never regretted it. Fred is a great guy and shared enough info so I could catch them on my own. "I'm conservation minded and am not looking to start a guide service", I told Ralph.... but oh well.

Does either Ralph or Fred have an apprentice or relative understudy to take over one day?
