A real Newbie
Hello guys,
For the first time in my 30 years long life I decide to go fishing. I got that rod from Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Zebco-Dock...Combo/19491283 And I got a Jig. I couldn't get anything. I am trying my luck in this spot:http://maps.google.com/maps?client=u...,0.009645&z=17 which I found here in your forum. I want to know what king of bait, hook, should I use. Whether I need BOBBERS, sincker or the both? In this particular spot, what gear should I use to end up with a little first luck fish? :) And I am glade to join this fabulous local forum. Thank you all |
i posted this on the forum a couple days back...http://www.watergremlin.com/sinkerizer/
this could help you on deciding which set up to use possibly |

I would google trout magnet. Check out videos. Get them at most stores that sell fishing gear. Lighter line maybe 4lb with a small float/bobber. Small but very effective.

I don't mind sharing my personal information with anyone here, and would like to invite you to have the dinner together if you are near Murfee. But I don't like to put my personal information here in public, since the visitor can read the forum too. I am far away from here. Thank you for stopping by |

If a guy doesn't want to say where he's from, he doesn't have to say where he's from.
Newbie, welcome. "Teach me how to fish" is a tall order for a single Internet forum post. Whole series of books have been written on it. If you just want to get your feet wet and catch a few, the best "starter" rig is a small hook around #8 size, with a couple split shot sinkers for weight about 18 inches up, and a bobber about 3 or 4 feet above the hook. Buy some worms and put about half a worm on a hook, and you're all set. Find a deeper hole with some shade, pitch out, and wait. If you don't get a bite in 10 minutes or so, cast to a different spot until you find fish. If you want to get more advanced, small lures like rooster tail spinners and "mister twister" grubs will get you some action. Keep in mind that bigger lures tend to catch bigger fish, but fewer fish. After you catch a lot of the little guys and get the basics down, it'll be time to start getting into more advanced stuff. But this will be a good place to start. Good luck! bd |

On lakes, a little rain can really help because the runoff will wash bugs and other food into the water. Fish will move shallower and look for stuff to eat. On rivers, some rain can be good but too much can result in flooded conditions that pretty much shut things down until the water recedes a little bit. Catfish LOVE muddy water after a big rain, and some of my best catfishing days have been after a big storm when everything is really muddy. On the other hand, catfish feed by smell, and most other gamefish feed by sight. So if it gets really muddy from a big storm, it can be harder to catch the fish that sight feed at least part of the time (like bass, trout, and bluegill). This post is over-simplifying a bit. Sometimes there are exceptions where you can have a really good day fishing for bass or trout even after storm runoff hits. But as a basic rule: 1. Rain is good if it doesn't make things really muddy. 2. If it makes the water really muddy so that there is no visibility, rain will shut the fishing down for a couple days until it starts to clear up again. 3. If you are fishing for catfish, the really muddy water does not shut it down, and sometimes the day after a big storm when things are really muddy is the best time to go. bd |
