test prop OMC
TK Walker if you need to drop this topic down to the lounge I won't feel bad.
I am in need of a test prop to run in a tank. I have a 1998 Evinrude 225 running a 14-1/2 x 24 Raker. Any info on what I need or how to find out will be so helpful. Thanks |
Wow
Alan, I only have test wheels for early vintage OMC's up to 35 HP... Sorry.

My motor has been bogging down after it warms up. Last year I took a chance and had the power pack replaced. It ran good in cooler weather but when I was out last time it was mid 70's. It started cutting out again. I was wanting to run the motor to get it hot and test the circuits again. Thus the need for a test wheel. I would take it to a dealer but I don't want to miss the bite again this year. I missed it last year too. The repair side of the dealers are 4 to 6 weeks out. Thanks, Alan |
You might go to the Prop Shop in Englewood. It is on the main drag on the right heading toward Dupont City. I would call them. They used to be really good with props. Good luck.

A good prop shop will allow you to test multiple props before deciding on which one to purchase. The variable geometry, along with the hydro-dynamic properties of the boat (weight, centerline depth, etc) affect performance parameters. A simple change of moving the outboard up a hole, or down a hole in its position on the transom ALONE can make a world of difference in how the boat/motor perform. Good Luck!!! It can be a challenge. |

FYI Test Wheels (PROPS)
A test wheel is a prop that lets you rev your motor under load without propelling the boat. Trying different props is not what Alan is asking for. Test wheels are simple to use on smaller motors that can be put in a barrel, In Alan's case he can back the trailer to the edge of the water on the ramp .. TK:eek:
