Getting started tournament fishin
 

I guess this will kind of be my intro as I've only posted here I time or two. Lol but anyways my names Evan and I'm about to be 15 years old I've been fishing my whole life and in recent years gotten pretty heavy into bass fishing. Last year I bought myself a 14' v bottom with a trolling motor and was having pretty good success on it, but I have now upgraded to a 96 legend dominator 202 with a Mercury 150 on the back. I'm giving 2500 for it in weekly payments and all it needs is a trim motor and three batteries. So next year I was going to try and start entering some local tournaments and see how I did,but I was wondering if yall could help me with how I should be going about learning both on and off the water. I am also on mount juliets high school fishing team and fish with a buddy of mine. But I was just looking for some help regarding to preparing for tournament fishing and bass fishing in general. Just go the rest will come as with all things repetition is the key to learning.

Get an gas charged life vest and wear it.

I no longer bass fish, but I used to subscribe to the In Fisherman and the FLW magazines. I've accumulated quite a few in a box in the garage that I don't plan on reading anytime soon. You can have them if you want them.

Read all you can is a good tip.

Enter some tourney's as a co-angler. I did that first just to get a clue before going from the front. Watch your boater closely and learn.

Enter some small, low stakes team events so you can have fun with a friend. There is one on Sunday morning our of Saunders that is only $15 for one or $25 for 2 people. It's more for fun and most of the folks are in it just for a little entertainment, not for the money.

Most of the clubs and such are winding down for the year, so ask around during the off-season and find something that is a good match.

And, of course, practice! Finding the fish is often times much harder than catching them. No magic to finding them other than getting out there and trying.
