Old Hickory

Hello all... Went camping on Friday night with my son. We loaded our gear into the boat, got to the site, set up camp, crashed pretty early friday. My son was up at 3am ready to rock. I convinced him to try to sleep a while longer but by 5:30 I was cooking hot dogs for breakfast over the fire. He wanted to fish so we headed out. Caught all the shad we needed in 2 cast-net throws. Started fishing and Ephraim landed his first "big" striper on a free-swimming 7 inch shad that was trailing with about 80-100 ft of line off the back of the boat. It was about 12 pounds. He handled the fish like a pro. Once he landed it, he was completely out of breath and said he can't believe the rod didn't break and that his back was hurting from fighting the fish. He begged me to keep the fish and cook it for lunch and I probably should have but made him release it. Pics and video were taken but didn't save so I have nothing but the memory in my head. About an hour later, he was ready to go back to the campsite so we did. The weekend was all about father/son time and I had a blast making memories. We shot the pellet gun and skipped rocks for hours. I swear he would skip rocks all weekend and never get bored.

Have a great week!
