poaching by boat??

A few weeks ago I camped at caney creek rv resort and was watching a bon fire a homeowner had on his property across the channel up on a ridge at night because it looked like he was gonna burn down the woods...anyways I noticed a boat with no running lights trolling very slowly below the homeowners property along the shore shining a huge torch light into the woods as they went. They were definately looking for something along the shore or up the bank a hundred yards or so as they trolled . There were no docks on that side of the lake or houses that far down only woods...I watched this boat do this for an hour until they rounded the point and I couldnt see anymore. Is this a way to deer poach? I cant for the life of me think of what they were looking for with the light but they were shining it everywhere in the woods close to the bank and slightly uphill. They definately were not shiing the light on the water to see where they were going, just in the woods. Any thoughts?

Welcome Squeaker, is Puelo's Grill still up there? Damn good food especially fried asparagus.

Who knows what they were doing. You'd think there would be an easier way to poach deer than that. I run into coons a lot at night along the waters edge here.

Probably hunting frogs.

Yup, Puelo's is still here and doing a great business...havent tried the fried asparagus but the fried green maters are awfully good, and believe it or not they make a great steak.

I'd rather eat frog legs than a raccoon. :)
