Cold Weather Bass In Creeks & Rivers

Being pretty new to freshwater - this is my first fall after an amazing summer casting into just about every puddle across the mid-state.

I was able to develop some "sense" in the warm weather / water about where the SM/LM would be hanging out and what I should or shouldn't be throwing at any given time or day.

Now that the cool nights have moved in it's seriously knocked me off my game. For example - I fish the Harpeth a lot and I haven't been seeing any fish - let-alone catching them.

To top it all off the heavy rains from the other night seemed to completely blow everything out of sync.

I've been changing up my colors - going with more natural - tossing plastics, jigs, spinnerbaits, swim baits and shallow-divers around cover focusing more on the shallower spots rather than focusing on the deeper holes - but I'm striking out.

Is fall skinny-water really this bad when the temps go down or am I just on a bad streak? I see you guys on JPP catching dozens-o-dinks... so what's the secret?

I don't think there is a secret. Cover lots and lots and lots of water.

On the Harpeth start fishing the deeper pools.

x2 on deeper pools in creeks and rivers in the fall/winter. Also a bit of stealth never hurts, if possible I will wade upstream and cast over my targeted spots and “slowly” work my lure in.
A go to bait for me this time of year is a wacky rigged senko in black or green pumpkin, but patience is the key.

Thanks all for your input. After covering my regular deep holes and reading up on bass moving to shallows I guess I've been focusing too much on adjusting.

Andy - I use Senko's / Yum-Dinger's about 85% of the time and unless I'm in crazy cover I'm typically wacky rigging it. I started Neko rigging a few weeks ago and had a great week when I started doing that but it went dead right after my excitement faded.

I'll check in when I get it dialed in.

Thanks
