Caney Fork Personal best

Since we finally had a decent generation schedule for the yak, I fished the Caney pretty hard for 3 days. I didn't catch a ton of fish, but i caught some decent onces! I had a total of 5 browns over the trips and 2 walleyes. Three of the browns were 16-18", then had a nice 22" hookjaw and also had a 23" FATTIE! It isn't my longest brown from the Caney, but by far the heaviest!

The walleyes were 15" and 21". Thought about Jimmy and Merv as I slipped the 21" eye back to fight another day:D

Caught several stocker brooks and browns before dark. Lost a few nice browns due to them jumping and missed a few other nice smacks also.

I am really getting addicted to these nice browns;)

For those that I got to fish with this weekend! I had a blast, lets do it again soon!

I'm going this weekend and I can't wait, I miss that water!! Awesome bunch of fish you caught man, looks like you had a great time. I really hope they keep that 250 cfs coming through the sluice up through the weekend for me.

Now if I could only get the people from Caney River Runners to respond to my email about booking a cabin for a night...

Those are some nice fish. What are you throwing to catch them and is that a Jackson Kayak Coosa?

Travis C. 08-19-2013 04:46 PM

Nice job Mike.

I am really hoping to get on that water this weekend.

Awesome fish Mike, I'd love to have seen what that river was producing 6-8 years ago.

I remember. Epic is my best description. I never threw jerkbaits, though. I did put a lot of fish on my 7 and 8 wt fly rods...ah, the good ol' days.

I would like to have had the regs now back then but that is just down right being greedy.

Awesome fish Mike!

And thanks for at least giving me a thought as you released that 21 inch walleye!

geckel 08-19-2013 10:29 PM

Man, that's a good catch. I have never been on the Caney at night but it sure seems to have been productive. I certainly like the use of the jerkbaits and that fluke tied on in that one pic is the perfect size and color. Nice job. Thanks for the report.

CreekWalker 08-20-2013 09:23 AM

Good for you, man! Great fish.

You MUST give it a shot! That's the time when those big browns feed. Sure they can be caught in the daytime too but it's not near as likely.

nomad60 08-20-2013 02:03 PM

Nice catches; those are some healthy looking fish!

Transplanted Sportsman 08-20-2013 06:35 PM
