I like to make a habit of eating nothing but 20+" Smallmouth Bass and 24+" Brown Trout. :D
In all seriousness: 1- Walleye 2 - Bass 3 - Trout 4 - Crappie (only above white bass because they're easier to fillet) 5 - White Bass/Striper/Hybrid |
Here we go:
#1-Common Carp #2-Sheepshead (drum) #3-Skipjack #4-Gar #5-Gizzard Shad Okay, seriously: #1-Perch #2-Walleye #3-Crappie #4-Hybrid (have striper in the freezer, havent tried yet) #5-Trout #6-Catfish (2-3lbs) |

I can put you on some gar during the summer months. I thought about trying gar balls sometimes but the way those things stink, I am afraid to eat them. |

gar head would make a cool skull mount though, all them teeth! |
It is a blast fishing for them. It's one of those things that the hotter the better with the weather. I have a spot here in murfreesboro on the stones that you can hook into one on every cast. They put up a heck of a fight and can jump like a smallmouth. My best was 58" and it put on a show. I did it once in my kayak but almost had the fish jump into the yak with me, last time I did that.

How can you tell which is a boy gar to get the "gar balls" you mentioned?

There is a muddy trail below the boy gar when in shallow water. |
If anyone wants to load the boat with gar just fish the mouth of White's creek. It is only a few yards up from Briley Pkwy. bridge and Ford Glass.
