ok so me and my dad are going to fish the lock a side of cheatem tom for some sauger if possible. anyone got some tips as to where? I know that usually the end of the lock right at the break is where everyone goes but I'm worried it's been fished out since I saw I guy pull at least 5 big ones out of there a few weeks ago. any suggestions? Dave and I were out there yesterday and no one was on the bank at the end of the lock. You can't fish that spot "out" as there are always fish moving in to rest. You can almost always catch something in close proximity. It took us till around 10:30 to figure out how to catch the whites. All but one was caught on the river bank yesterday. We were convinced they would be in the creeks because of the color but fooled again. Fun day. We caught 30 to 35 I guess. We kept 20 or so. Holler at me sometime if you can fish on Monday. Every once in awhile my passenger seat is empty. If Mondays are always open for you I can give you some to pick from. I normally don't take 2 but if your dad wanted to go also I think it could be arranged.

We caught all but 2 on an 1\8oz jig with a 2 inch tube. I caught most of them on 4lb line until I broke one off not re-tying after one of the bigger ones. After that both of us were using 8lb. Yellow and chartreuse worked best yesterday.

If you follow my posts you know I use 2# test for 95% of my fishing...catch a bunch of big Smallies....big trout....KY bass on it. But when it comes to fishing for white bass I have one rod loaded up with 6# test line just to fish for them. That big wide tail they have makes them one heck of a fighter. I'm hoping in next 2-3 weeks can get into some of those fatties like you have in the cooler.

I do follow your posts and have started using 2lb a lot more because of you and Ed. I use 4 lb some when fishing for whites only because I don't have to be as patient waiting for the jig to hit the bottom in heavy current. As soon as I get complacent and break one off on the hookset I go back to 6 or 8. Whites are the reason I leave the sauger alone most of the time. Love the fight and I know a lot of people don't but I love the taste.

I actually went out Monday and was only able to catch 2 nice size whites all on a white grub. I had a guy literally start fishing 2ft away from me at the bottom of the steps. If my dad wasn't with me to keep me calm I probably would've gotten into it with him.

Too Close

I hear ya, man.

I was once in my boat at OH Dam and slaying fish and two guys in a small bass tracker almost hit the back of my boat with their bow, then tossed their anchor inches from my prop. Turned slowly and growled. They backed off. If I had a weapon it would not have been pretty.

Shut Up ...bonehead it's PRE meditated with that talk.

I wish I would've taken a picture. You would've thought we were pier fishing at PCB or something. I mean barely arms length away from me. Gahh I'm still a little heated just thinking about it. It was an older man too who you'd think would have some respect
