No, man... that's a rockfish. Lives under rocks. Duh! Oh, wait, it's got a stripe under it's eye, that means it's gotta be a stripe, yeah? Wait, black perch?! What? Now that's just silly.

Red eye is what you got after a long night out fishing for strippers, or stripers, or whatever they are.

I'm familiar enough with carp to where I'm certain I would recognize it. it doesn't look like a carp but who knows, maybe. I'm sure I'll see it again and now I'll look with carp in mind.

Rock Bass or Redeye. Fine eating fish. But don't tell anyone. ;)

I saw something in the water (harpeth) that was atleast 3 feet long and it wasn't a gar....it had a much fuller body.

Redeye is a common name for rock bass and they are a sunfish just like all black bass species are.

The harpeth has longnose and spotted gar, maybe shortnose as well. The shortnose and spotted gar are shorter and stockier than longnose. Anything else 3 feet long could be a common carp, buffalo, or grass carp more likely than anything else.

Never know could be a damned Asian carp since we are not used to identifying them.
