Went to Pickwick today to get some Gills for a fish fry Saturday. I had a spot picked out that I thought would be holding some chunks...and it did...but the problem was it was also holding Smallies...White Bass...and Large Mouth. Caught 8 Large Mouth all just about same size as in pic. Caught somewhere between 40 to 50 Small Mouth all in the same size range....12 to 13 inches. Had about 45 White Bass. All of the fish were caught on 2# test NanoFil using 2# test fluorocarbon leader. The lure was a 1/64 Trout Magnet in the Bison and Purple Redemption color. While the Gills will hit Purple Redemption I have found Small Mouth love that color in all the lakes I fish that have them. The Gills were really thick. When you are catching fish like today you don't even want to take time to stop and take any pics. All in all a great day. Have to go to doc to get the knees juiced up early AM then off to fish somewhere else. If anyone interested the Stripers are busting it around the generator intakes on the lake side at Pickwick. Quite a frenzy going on.
And finally, I caught the first fish in my life.
I attached a 4lb fluorocarbon to the end of my line, and used a nightcrawler as a bait.
Now, I feel more confident playing with the bait, splitshot, and bomber. I start understanding the main concept of using the basic things. And the most important, after the first fish, i knew that I am doing the right thing, I can catch a fish.

Thank you all guys for the great guide, and for being patient with my lower-than-beginner questions.

I think it is a green sunfish, can you confirm it please?

Fishing this month in Islamorada, Florida Keys has been fantastic. The mild winter has kept our waters very warm and as far as the fish are concerned, spring is here. Tarpon have started to show up pretty good back in the cape area, all around flamingo and the everglades, and even in the bays in the local fly fishing holes on flat calm days. We had some good nights bridge fishing, catching several fish in the 80-100 lb range fishing early in the morning. There have been plenty of redfish and snook around in the backcountry as well, they've moved from the deeper creeks and canals to the shallows. The morning after a recent (and likely are last) cold front, it blew a steady 25 mph, but we made it back to one of my honey holes and caught approx. 30 snook and 20 redfish, plus some sheepshead and black drum! Many of the shorelines and islands with downed trees are a good bet for finding these fish, they can also be found in numbers up on the flats where they can be sight fished. Plenty of trout, ladyfish, jacks, snappers, and the likes can be found in muds in the bays, and there are even still a few mackerel, bluefish, and pompano around though they are starting to thin out as the water temperatures rise. Some permit and cobia have shown up in the gulf, and even some permit on the offshore wrecks on the atlantic side have been spotted. We had some good bonefishing on some of the recently windy, overcast days which gave us good stake up conditions, catching 3 one morning in the 6 - 8 lb range.
2. Pan fish = total weight
3. Catfish = big fish

Large mouth and Smallmouth must be alive.
If you catch a giant catfish and want to CPR, weigh it, take photo and have a witness.

If all agree then we can take up $10.00 per angler and Have gift cards for 1st place winners.

The date will be June 30th (Sat). Start time 06:30 and end at noon.
Location: Lagaurdo rec area, Old Hickory Lake on Hwy 109 in Lebanon.

There are picnic tables and a sand beach for swimming, now as far as food, I can bring my grill and I think that if you just brought what you want to eat and drink would be the best. I will bring extra burgers and buns and what not. What would be great if we could get some of our wifes to come and hold a spot for us...

If we all agree on the gift card, K-mart has Basspro gift cards that we could get. The date should give all advance notification to be able to attend.

This is going to be an awesome event and I am looking forward to meeting you all.

Don

PS...any legal means of fishing, be it cane pole, trolling what ever as long as it is legal, any type of bait as long as it is legal can be used. Pan fishers please only weigh in fish that you would normally keep for table fare. This will be an individual event, so if you have more than one person in your boat then it is up to you to keep track of your fish! Maybe use culling markers. The date has been changed to June 30th so that TK can attend. Also you may fish from the bank as long as you are within the Law..

Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

Long time reader first time poster. What a great site and learned so much, thanks to all who share and time for me to join in.:)

I live in H'ville near Drakes Creek. Just bought a second boat, a 21' center console with the intention of hunting down stripe and stipers. I know this lake is full of them both. Not looking for the huge stripers yet and I know they are on the other side of the lake for the big un's. But that being said, there has to be some 10lb+ fish through out the lake. Just looking for some places to start looking for both fish. I have umbrella rigs, inline spinners, small crank baits to start. Wife and son LOVE to fish and I just want to get them on some of these "smaller" stripers or nice stripe and let them experience the sound of a reel begin for mercy. I have only had luck under the dam, but will not take this boat down that confounded ramp.
Thanks for all the advice and keep up all the good work.

P.S.
I cant get my son to read a book, but he does read this site, lol

I gained about 13lbs over the vacation beer, bourbon, scotch, and lots, and lots of food.

There was a bunch of firsts and personal bests caught like sharks, black fin tuna, dorado and king fish. A friend of Sarah and mine came over from Jacksonville Florida Wednesday and fished with us for the rest of the week. He had never been in a kayak on the ocean as he usually fish's for reds, trout, and flounder in the creeks. He is now hooked. There is nothing like hooking into a fish and the first 10 seconds is drag screaming, or it taking 15 minutes to land a fish because the fight is so strong, or just not knowing what is on the other end.

After the first day of fishing Sarah picked up a new rod and reel an Okuma level wind with bait alarm, and roller guide rod. This really helped her put some fish in the boat.

This was a great trip, and trying to plan another this fall, and definitely at least one per year. I'll get some pictures up soon.

Sunday was a sad departure, but 8 days is the perfect length to make a good vacation.

The view from our balcony, this was breakfast about every morning.
The big ones were not up close to the bank. Counted the Trout Magnet down to 25 feet and ever so slowly twitched it back to me. Takes quite a while for a Trout Magnet to drop 25 feet. It rained on me most of the day. I didn't care...I was having a ball. All of the fish are at 9 inches. On some the girth is quite large. I guess on about 4 fish they were approaching a pound. All the others were better than a half pound.....made some really nice filets. Going to try and hunt them again tomorrow.

Hey guys! It's been awhile since I've posted, but I could use a little help. My wife and I are headed to Moors Resort on Kentucky Lake on Wednesday. This is for our 5 year anniversary and she plans on letting me do a good bit of fishing, while we're there. (I definitely married the right girl! :D) I've never fished on Kentucky Lake, but know of it's great reputation. I mainly plan on fishing for bass, large mouth or small mouth, but have no problem catching other species, as well. Is anyone familiar with this resort, or area of the lake? The resort is located in Gilbertsville, Kentucky. (http://www.moorsresort.com/) I had planned on getting a guide on one of the days, but the money isn't gonna be there for that. They have boats for rent, so that's what I intend to do. What techniques would be most productive in this area and time of year? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I believe a TN fishing license is valid on certain parts of the lake, but have no idea if this would cover the area I will be in. Can anyone confirm or deny that? Thanks again!
