Took the kayak out for the first time today. It performed really well and the wind wasn't too much of an issue. Since I am new to this sport....everything is new with it except for casting the rod. I did manage to catch a few crappie and a bass on Killer Klatt CM's under a float as well as what I call swinging.

Pics are on my phone will post a little later.

Can't wait to fish some more in it and get used all the nuances.

Congratulations on sliming it. It's a whole different world being on the water in a paddle craft from manuvering, to getting from one place to another, to not being able to carry the kitchen sink with you.

Awesome travis, welcome to the plastic navy! We'll have to hit the water sometime. Maybe we can do a crappie outing before it gets too cold.

Thanks, I am definitely seeing the difference in the couple times in a kayak. I spent most of the morning "making" boxes of lures/plastics to carry in it from my bulk bins.

Gonna be fun.

Thanks, maybe we can. I am hoping to fish more out of this to get used to it than the other boats. Fixing to cough up couple hundred in batteries for my big boat that could have gone to tricking the kayak out.

Kind of bittersweet to see Ol' Blue in someone else's hands, but when I'm told how much fun it was, it eases the pain of selling my first kayak. Glad you enjoyed it, Travis...now get ready for some winter fishing...kayak-style :)

Thanks again man, I hope I can get at least half the quality of fish over the side that you've pulled up.

Travis, what is your kayak?

Hammy

Mainstream Kingfish 12' sit-on-top. It's a first-generation fishing kayak (translation: old model, made when fishing from a kayak was not taken very seriously by most kayak manufacturers). It has a decent topside layout, though, and is lightweight (44 lbs) and really stable. I added a couple of forward-mounted rod holders to allow trolling, down lining, drifting baits, etc. There is also an anchor trolley on the left side. I took my depthfinder off before I sold it to Travis, but he has a replacement that just needs to be installed. I put a lot of fishing time on this boat and really enjoyed it, but I've upgraded boats and I know Travis was interested in kayak fishing, so I let this one go well under MSRP...no better way to get a new member of the plastic armada than by making their first kayak a good one at a low price.

Thanks Chris for answering as I wouldn't have been much help other than the name so far.

I believe Perception made them under that name.

Thanks Fellows. I bought the F&S Talon 12' and still trying to set it up so I'm gleaning all the info I can.

I also own the Talon 12...not a bad boat. I added flush-mount rod holders to facilitate trolling and added a lowrance mark 5x pro depthfinder. My only complaint is that the stern well will not fit a milk crate. I bought a file crate and it works fine, but I wish the stern well had been a bit larger. The anchor trolley that comes with the kayak is WAY too small. The one I added to Travis' yak runs from bow to stern. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you have any rigging questions.

Well had it about a month and a half or so.

Thought I'd give an update on what little bit I've managed to do to it.

Started to add a little to make it fish ready:

I can carry 8 rods plus one fly rod and also added the HB depthfinder in the front.

Also swapped all the shock chord for orange, added some new signage on the side, used remainder of shock chord for a paddle leash, added 2 Zooka tubes, 1 Ram fly rod holder and added pad eyes on the crate well with shock chord for a crate restraint on the kayak.

Nice looking yak, Travis and yeah, I have to agree with Alpha...you have a lot going on there!

Some people keep big books on their coffee tables as conversation pieces, others put a boat in their living room. ;)

Best part is everything is either on the crate or on a track. With a snap of a carabiner or twist of a Ram ball all can be taken off to where the boat has nothing on it except for the depthfinder.

That way I can take the kitchen sink or just a trout mag rod in the molded in rod holders and have an easy day.

Also, I have the square Mighty Mounts which are the black square under the rear Zooka Tube rod holders on my bass boat as well. So all the RAM stuff will transfer over. I can use the fly rod holder and/or Zooka tubes on it as well.

Mine were in my living room.....but then again I'm not married. Maybe that's why I'm not married......LOL. I now keep them in my girl friends garage. But now I have to get some more furniture as am reclaiming my living room. Plus I'm thinking of getting rid of one of my kayaks but buying one to replace it......always more money.... LOL.

Man, that is awesome to see that all rigged up! Do you put a weight in the crate so it doesn't topple over? I need a rod holder in my jon boat and am gonna build one of those...what size pvc pipe should I get (for spinning rods and bait casters)?

I use 1.5" pvc.

This is what the crate attachment looks like after i added pad eyes and shock chord:

Can't tell you how many hours I've spent researching, testing, and rigging my kayak. Loved every minute.
