Just bought a used, great condition Motor Guide 43 lb foot controlled trolling motor but the shaft is longer than I need on my 14 foot john boat...I guess it is 42 inches and I don't know options for having it cut down...can't decide if I should sell it or have it cut down...how involved and costly is it to shorten a trolling motor?
Looks like the cheapest bow mount motor at Bass Pro is in the $350 to $380 range.
Advice? Ideas? Suggestions?

I'd just adjust the clamp on the shaft to whatever depth you want.. That's what I did..

when i adjust it to the depth i need, the shaft sticks up so high that it is in the way

If it was a hand control I'd say just hack it off and try not to get the wires but a foot control may need something done to the cable if its possible. Just a guess...never tried it.

Hey TK, it is metal...I am Todd Young, whose 15hp seahorse you fixed a year ago

Usually an easy fix on tiller motors ... Need to look at it ... may not be a real big deal to shorten the shaft ... <'TK>< :)
