I'm looking at the Piranhamax 170 or the Lowrance X-4 for a small boat...any experience with either of these or another one in the under $125 range?

I haven't had any experience with either but the fishing buddy portable fish finder I'd stay away from. Those are in that price range and would be good for small crafts but several people I know that have had them the clamp broke tightening it down. The fish finder itself is good just the clamp attachment is a hardened plastic and to replace is about half what you can buy a whole assembly for.

I have the x-4 pro or whatever the next one up from the plain x-4 is. It works great but the mounting instuctions suck. We moumted it like it said to and it won't read while on the move. Only at idle and while on the trolling motor.

I am looking at a Lowrance Mark-4, it is black and white and has GPS, for 199.00, the reveiws on line are have been great for such a inexpensive unit. With downscan another 100.00. Color is 299.00. Don't know if anyone has tried this one yet. I just can't afford a 700.00 unit right now and would like to get used to using the GPS. Thanks any input would be of great help.

Bass Pro has two Humminbirds in that range. My last boat had the one with the, what I think its called, 120 radius. I'm buying another just like it for the new boat. Now that I think about it, Walmart has the 60 radius for around $75. As far as gps, too much money for me when my phone has an excellent gps on it.

hey rob. i have the mark-4. i have not gotten much time to play with it. but for the money i thought it was a great deal.

i was realy wanting the DSI and color. but i had set my spending to under 200. but it was sure a hard choice not to spend the extra $100.

Yes White95 I hope to use it to get in and out of these creek channels on Old Hickory without slowing down to a crawl. Besides all the use, as in marking and following creeks and such.

There is a lowrance x125 on craigslist for $150 that I bet you could get for $125. If you dont need GPS, these units are hard to beat.
