Had a great day at Nickajack. I have not fished in a while as my trolling motor has been in the shop for several weeks and I was waiting to get my new sonar transducer installed. I only fished around 4 hours before the heat ran me off. But during that time I caught a dozen shell cracker....8-10 inches.....and once the shell cracker bite quit I moved to new spot and caught a fish every cast for 3 hours! It was either a KY bass or crappie.....I would say around 25 KY bass and 60 or so crappie. The KY bass were mostly in the 11-12 inch range....all the crappie 11-12 inch. The Spots were really "Diggin".....used the Tict Mebaru UL rod strung up with SOS 2# test line and a Bison colored Trout Magnet on a 1/16 ounce ball head. Even the crappie gave a pretty good account of themselves using the UL and fighting them in a little bit of a current. I used my new Mega Imaging sonar today and what a great unit it is....I fished at two spots and the unit was the reason I fished those spots. I have included some images from the Helix 10 si. When I left the house this morning I really wasn't expecting much today because of the heat but it turned out to be a fantastic 4 hours! I have never really caught many crappie in the summer...I guess really because I don't target them. But this summer I have found a spot that is holding a lot of them. I left with the fish biting and hated to leave but the heat was really getting to me.....I might add I was the only nut out there in it....LOL. Life its good!

Great day for sure.
What are the gear shaped structures in the pic taken in 15.3' of water?

That's the spill gate supports under water. I did not fish there as I made that pass after the heat got to me and was getting ready to leave......but you can rest assured I will fish it next time down. Lot of fish in there.

Congratulations Mr Randy, it looks like a great day of catching, those shellcrackers look nice although compared to those on the nwr down in Louisiana they look more on the small side, did you fish up on the lake or below the dam?, you are right, I was off from work yesterday and thought it was just too hot to drag my daughter out fishing, wil try normandy in the morning before the heat and nuts get too heavy

Not really John....LOL. I am amazed at how different it fishes from Pickwick. I was up in the dead lock a few days ago and a huge mayfly hatch was going on...not a single bluegill anywhere around. I am looking forward to finding out more about the place. It sure has a lot of KY bass down there. Going to get in touch with you soon to get some info. The drive to Pickwick has just gotten to be too long......looking forward to fishing Nickajack a lot more.
