I have a Minn Kota Maxxum 70 lb thrust 24V. About two weeks ago the trolling motor stopped working. I pulled it out of the water and put it back in and it started working again. I thought no problem. Well over the past two weeks its gotten progressively worse. To the point were I am having to pull it up and put it back in the water all the time. It works fine then it will cut off on me and I have to pull it up and put it back in the water and it works fine....Etc. Seems like a short. getting good power when it is on. Also, it seems like it works a tad bit better on the highest setting (doesnt cut off as much). Don't think it is the battery.

We had to replace the prop about two weeks ago because the pin was shredded. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it. Any suggestions are what could be causing this? I have no idea about fixing trolling motors but this seems like it could be an easy fix. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

I want to say I recall some Minn-Kota motors a few years back incurred a switch problem. I would pull my switch and clean it with electrical contact cleaner to rule out that is the culprit.

A connection is probably corroded and the raising and lowering is causing it to reconnect momentarily when the foot pedal wires are flexed. Check and clean all your connections. Instead of raising and lowering, wiggle the foot pedal wires to try to reproduce the problem.
