Caught a ton of crappie, gills, cats and bass this weekend on old hickory. Depths varied, caught them shallow, and caught them deep. Lost a really nice bass, probably 3lbs, right at the boat. Most fish came off of minnows, but did catch several on chartreuse grubs. My little boy had a blast out there with me and didn't want to leave the lake!!

Nice work. Been really off or really on for me, I usually don't use minnows this late in season but they seem to really matter so far this year. Could use a little help understanding the in and out and in and out this year. Seems every front keeps moving them back out......??? Just a weird crappie season for me this year.

It's been a really weird year for the bass for me. But haven't had any problems finding crappie. Which is bass ackwards for me!! Live minnows were the ticket, a dead one would sit till a catfish found it, and jigs/grubs didn't produce for me that well. I did manage one 13" crappie on a grub Saturday night. He lived to see another day. All of the keepers were in 10-15fow and I had my bobber set at 6-8'.

Congrats on your catch! Even better with your son along.
Just remember it's not a bobber.
It's an indicator.:eek:lol
I told an old crappie fisherman once that I used a float and he made me know it was an "indicator" :p
Great catch!

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love bass fishing. But there's no better feeling than watching a bobber/float/indicator bounce and then drop out of sight!! Like you said, it'll make any grown man feel like a kid again!! And who doesn't want that.

Hey all you conventional guys stick to your own terms. We fly fishermen have been using indicators since.....well.....since the indicators were invented by us.

You bunch of wannabe hipster gear guys. Just go buy a fly rod and be done with it already. :D

I still use the old way of 12 foot jig pole and tight line so i can reach up into the brush where the big ones live. i catch fish that other people don't even fish for. maybe I shouldn't have said this online.
