These are my trolling A-rigs that I use for hybrid/stripers.

8 blades, three live hooks, two teasers, trolled at 1.1-1.4 MPH. Heads are 1/4 oz. If I need to go deeper, I just add a sinker by using a rubber band.

Pretty wild set up, which brings me to a F&W question. Why can't you use five hooks on one bait (Alabama rig) when a guy running a crappie spider rig can run 14 rods with 28 jigs? I don't see a big difference here or the harm the single rod guy with five hooks would cause in the first place.

Initially when the rigs came out there was an old "umbrella rig" reg on the books they had to obide by. Its been changed since and there may be a gray area they get around if they are legal. The law reads simply 3 hooks per rod, pole are handheld line unless its a sabiki rig. The last they may be able to fall under.

Merv,

Do you have much luck on the bream and crappie swimbaits? How well do they swim on the rig?

I have been interested in picking up a pack to just throw for bass but haven't yet.

If i may cut in as well, i have the bluegills on a 2-arm A-rig and it works good as long as its not moving too fast. Too fast usually turns em on thier side and they dont swim right. Just my experience with using em.
