I keep zooming in the picture but I can't seem to be able to see the Gps coordinates! I'm sure you meant to share them with everyone right?

So here is my question, (and no, im not asking for any spots, or hints of spots or anything like that) but ive heard dozens of people say (mid-lake, Upper lake, ect) and the one thing that nobody has ever been clear on is where the "lake" starts and the river ends. LOL. looking at a google map, Old Hickory Lake starts way way up at the tail end of Cordell Hull Dam, but thats not truly the case because at that point, its considered the Cumberland River right?
so where does Old Hickory Lake officially "start"?

Again, im not looking for your spots, just a rhetorical question i guess as ive been down here for 15 years and have yet been able to find the start of Old Hickory Lake! LOL

I personally consider mid-lake between Cedar Creek and 109 bridge on Old Hickory but I'm sure others have different interpretations.

Your right, im sure if you ask 10 people you will get 10 different opinions on what is considered what....that has always baffled me. LOL.

If you went strictly off mileage:

Old Hickory Dam-Cairo (Lower)
Cairo-Hartsville Access (Mid)
Hartsville Access-Cordell Hull Dam (Upper)

Personally, I think of it about the same as you Shoe man. Above 109 is upper then to Cedar mid and everything below lower.

Makes sense! so i guess then, you personally dont recognize the "cumberland river". you just refer the body of water between the 2 dams as Old Hickory Lake.
Thats interesting the different takes ya hear when talking to different guys.
looking at a map, i would personally call OH from the dam, up to the 109 bridge. and from there up would be the cumberland river. i guess mentally, i need to see a clear break of what is considered a lake...the shoreline opens up wider, the current slows eventually down to nothing, in general, a more wide open expanse of water.
None of my rambling matters one bit to anything or anybody, i was just curious. LOL

Where Old Hickory lake starts is at OH Dam being where it was impounded and runs upstream to where Cordell Hull starts. That is why the regs for OH are the same in its main body as well as tribs like the Caney.

Where OH proper ends is up for debate with some folks but it is all the Cumberland River to me. However if I am in the main body of the lake I am fishing the lake...if its say above Bledsoe then I am more like referring to it as the river again.

I gave up on the upper mid and lower most people use, it's the big end or the river to me now. The dividing line is the 109 bridge. This also allows me to be vague when describing where I caught fish haha
