I hit Priest at 5am on 6/14 (Sunday) to get in a few hours of crankbait trolling for crappie before the pleasure boaters showed up. I had three rods out trolling 300 series bandit lures.

The area I fished had tons of scattered bait and the hits were coming quick. I'm not sure how many short crappie there were but it was plenty. Here is a breakdown of what I caught.

11 keeper crappie 10-14 inches. To many shorts to count.

Who knows how many yellow stripe.

8-10 largemouth with two being 15-17 inches which I kept.

1 giant bluegill that I kept.

14 pound buffalo that decided to come to life in the floor of my boat. I was covered in blood from the knees down till I could get it back in the water

8 hybrids. All between 3-5 pounds.

It is the first time I have gotten into hybrids like that while trolling for crappie. I saw an area with obvious bait on the surface with the occasional blowup scattered over a large area. I trolled through and sure enough got the hookup. Great fight on 6lb line and light weight spinning tackle. I eventually left the area because my lines were getting so tangled fighting fish.

Anyway it was an incredible morning and I was off the water by 10 am when the pleasure boaters started to arrive.

Here are a few pics.

Nice job!

I need to fill my freezer up soon.

Me and a buddy caught a bunch of crappie the other night. It was a blast with fly rods and light spinning rods. Even a few small striper crashed the party.

Thats a good day right there! i found plenty of shorts myself. might just be a "growing" year this year. the majority of my crappies were black nose.

Man, that's a fun morning. If you don't mind, what area of the lake are you fishing. I'm thinking about getting out Wednesday afternoon. I need to run the boat since it's been out of the water since Easter but I would like to possibly catch fish in the yak for KW points. Not sure what I will do yet.

The middle. Left side. Sorry, that is about as much as I can do. I covet my little trolling spots.

For crappie, look for areas without abrupt depth changes. These seem to work best for me. All my fish were caught in 18-21 fow at about 1.7-2.0mph

That's fine, thank you. I'm going to be in the Stewart creek area if I go. I have some deep spots with Brush that I'm going to check and then a flat off the channel and see if anything is cruising that in the afternoon. I really want to find some bass deep so that's my main goal.

Just look for the 2 sets of old timers on jet skis sporting spider rigs and towing coolers that are setting low in the water, and that are changing spots every 3 minutes...:D

Are the coolers sitting low because you need help with the cold beer or are they full of fish??? Do you use a drift sock while spider rigging or do you have a trolling motor on the skis?

I went out this morning but could only find one old timer and he zoomed away from the ramp and disapeared before I could follow him. Had to settle for 7 keepers and headed back by 10 before they boiled in the live well.
