Was able to cut out of work early yesterday and hit Percy Priest for a little crappie trolling.

Water was 75-76 degrees and I fished 300 series crankbaits in 16-20 foot of water at 1.5-2.0mph.

Managed 11 keeper crappie with three being between 13-15 inches. Probably caught at least 8-10 shorts that were released. Caught so many largemouth bass that I lost count. Probably 15 or so. All were 11-13 inches. I eventually changed out the crankbait to a different color so I wouldn't have to mess with them so much. The largemouth were loving the blue/chartreuse 300 crankbait for those of you that like the green fish. Also caught 5 or 6 small white bass.

Not a bad little afternoon with just two trolling rods. I didn't bother with my planer boards since I was alone and it can get to be a bit of work by yourself.

Most crappie were caught on either a white or bass colored crankbait.

Here is a pic of a 14 incher followed by the meat cooler.

Crappie Reaper. I believe they call them magnums or something like that. They have some for pulling jigs and the bigger ones for cranks. I haven't worked with them a lot yet but the times I have they seem to work well.

Yes, I bet you have friends that catch them and give them to you.

Nice mess of fish.
I haven't trolled for crappie yet this year, with cranks , I mean.
Gonna do that one of these days if I can just get off these hybrids!
5-10 lb hybrids make for a more exciting rod shake when they hit than do the crappie. Love watching that rod do a SERIOUS bendover when the hybrid/striper hit.

Dual boards on a mast...much easier for me when running multiple lines. Individual planers will do the job, but for me it easiest with one board per side and multiple clips on the planerboard line.

Were you fishing JPP Tuesday off of Bryant Grove point?

i was out there with my Wounded Warrior and saw a boat with a mast and boards. Not a real common sight out there.

I pull a mast w/Riviera boards for hybrids a little later in the year on the lower end of the lake.

No, That wasn't me. I have trolled the Bryant's grove area some but don't know that area quite as well just yet.

I'd actually like to try that this Summer but the only downside is the Crappie are deeper this time of year and being in a kayak, I tend to never fish JPP this time of year but if I do I stay as close to the bank as possible.

I love trolling cranks though, good workout in the kayak and I catch a lot of fish that way.
