Hello again everyone,
I would like to say thank you for all your input on all my posts. Ive learned a lot through you all. But i just came along a couple friends speaking of paddlefish snagging, and me, being from Ohio have never heard of it. Ive seen that there is a season for it but not sure why people do it. Is it ethical? Should i try it? I am just looking for another fun thing to do on the weekends. Thank you all again. much appreciated.

i guess the ethical part is laid upon your own idea's behind the practice. If the laws state you can do it by following a specific set of guidelines then i say go for it and give it a try. ive done it below old hickory quite a few years ago. its actually a pretty popular thing to do during the season. as far as why people do it, i imagine they must taste pretty good, never tried it myself though, never had the opportunity to. i would love to get a head and dry it out, would make a cool office desk piece. lol
alot of people argue that flinging a solid fiberglass arrow thru a carp at night is unethical, but dam thats a load of fun too!

well since they are plankton feeders. you can not catch them on any kind of bait or lure. soo the only ways to harvest a paddle fish is a net, bowfishing, spears, snaggging or gun lol. as always follow the state laws:)

I grew up near the Old Hickory dam and have seen a many fellow snag paddlefish and huge ones also like 5 ft or so.
They do it for meat and the process for cleaning is strange as there is no bones in paddlefish just a gelatinous cartilage that runs down the spine and can be pulled out whilst cleaning.

It is a cat type body and I have caught them while tossing cranks below the dam. In a boat in the middle of night they come up and skim the surface for plankton. Cool thing to see.

Just follow rules and don't over harvest but I bet now you will get a lot of
Asian carp in mix.
